Earlier today Sunderland and South Tyneside CAMRA<\/span> member Ken Paul was invited by Maxim Head Brewer Glen Whale to the Maxim Brewery in Rainton Bridge to see the festival Special Beer called “1040” being brewed for Sunderland Beer and Cider Festival 2017<\/span><\/strong>:<\/h3>\n

the wort was being transferred into the kettle to be boiled<\/p><\/div>\n

“When I arrived the wort was being transferred into the kettle to be boiled with the hops, <\/em><\/p>\n

in this case Willamette and Bramling Cross hops.<\/em><\/p>\n

The used grains were transferred into a small skip to feed the local horses.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

A hydrometer was used to show that the beer’s original gravity was in fact spot on 1040 <\/em>
\nThe next process was to transfer the hot liquor through a heat exchanger, used to get the temperature down to 18 deg……..”<\/em><\/p>\n
